He’s not even president yet, but Donald Trump already is making deals to keep jobs in the U.S., according to CNBC.
According to the business-news network, the Trump team has reached an agreement with United Technologies to keep in Indiana a Carrier plant that had been scheduled to close and have the jobs shipped overseas.
Citing “sources,” CNBC said that deal was brokered with assistance and “new inducements” from the Indiana state government, whose governor is Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
“Trump will visit IN on Thurs. to announce Carrier deal,” CNBC reported on its Twitter feed.
The CNBC report was quickly lamented on social media by free-trade supporters, such as Scott Lincicome, an international-trade attorney and a Cato Institute adjunct scholar, who said the deal reeked of “corporate welfare and cronyism.”
“Congratulations Indiana taxpayers! You involuntarily bought an inefficient AC factory,” he tweeted in all-capital-letters frustration.
