RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man won’t serve jail time after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor in a 2015 crash that killed a New York grandmother.
The Rutland Herald (https://bit.ly/2ecQUuR ) reports that 51-year-old Michael Brown, of Castleton, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Rutland to a misdemeanor count of careless and negligent driving in the crash that killed 76-year-old Virginia Greehan.
He was sentenced to three to six months in jail. But that time was suspended and he was placed on probation for a year.
Police say Brown was driving on state Route 30 in Castleton when he took his eyes off the road. Brown told police he tried to stop when he saw the woman but didn’t stop in enough time to not hit her.
Brown apologized in court.
