BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - New York leaders are remembering longtime Buffalo News publisher Stanford Lipsey, who died Tuesday in California at the age of 89.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman are among those recalling Lipsey as a generous philanthropist and advocate for Buffalo.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Lipsey was publisher of The Buffalo News for 29 years after being hired by owner Warren Buffett. He became publisher emeritus four years ago.
Schumer called Lipsey “Buffalo’s true guardian angel.”
He died at his Rancho Mirage, California, home.
