OPINION:
A long-winded obituary by the children of a fallen lady — that’s my take after perusing “The Life Of Kings: The Baltimore Sun and the Golden Age of the American Newspaper” (“BOOK REVIEW: ’The Life of Kings: The Baltimore Sun and the Golden Age of the American Newspaper,’” Web, Oct. 31).
Like ancient Diogenes walking about with a lamp in broad daylight looking for an honest man, 27 ex-Sun worthies contributed testimonials (condolences for the Sun’s demise) without a clue as to the real cause of the ’death.’ All emphatically agree, however, that what passes for the Baltimore Sun today is a mere shadow of the paper’s former self.
As a longtime reader of and current subscriber to the Sun, I know the reason for the fatality and for the obliviousness. It is the mind-numbing effect of lock-step Democratic voting by all of the Sun’s children, past and present, and the corruption that inevitably follows. Progressive ideology killed the Sun, and it’s contagious.
