Comedian Jon Stewart kicked off a charity event for veterans Tuesday night with some self-deprecating humor and attacks on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Attendees at the 10th Annual “Stand Up For Heroes” in New York heard the former “Daily Show” host say he was “a turd-miner for 16 years,” in addition to commentary on the 2016 presidential race. The event was presented by the Bob Woodruff Foundation and New York Comedy Festival.
“To be here tonight with you guys, my heroes, on the eve of the last American election is so exciting,” Mr. Stewart said at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, CNN reported. “I’m not in the game anymore. I’m not as much of a political analyst … but if I could ask you a question that I’ve been saying to my television, it’s ’What the [expletive]? What the [expletive] is going on? What is happening?!’”
The comedian then jabbed Mr. Trump for hot-mic comments he made to then-“Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush about women in 2005.
“I thought when a guy got off a bus and says, ’I’m going to grab her on the [expletive],’ then OK, we’re done. The election is over,” Mr. Stewart said, CNN reported. “Usually that is a signifier that we don’t have to pay attention anymore. Then the FBI jumps in, and all of a sudden there’s a whole new thing — and then it goes back to Anthony Weiner? This is insane.”
Mr. Stewart then mocked Mr. Trump for saying political systems were rigged against him while he lives “in a tower with your name on it in gold.”

“Vote wisely this Nov. 8,” Mr. Stewart said.
The former “Daily Show” host stepped down in August 2015 and was replaced by comedian Trevor Noah.
