A Hampton University poll released Wednesday shows Donald Trump up three-points over Hillary Clinton among Virginia voters, 44 percent to 41 percent — a dramatic shift for a poll that just weeks ago had the Democratic presidential nominee holding a double-digit lead over the Republican.

The Virginia university’s survey results come after the FBI announced Friday the reopening of a probe into Mrs. Clinton’s emails.

It’s the first time Mrs. Clinton has trailed in the Hampton University Center for Public Policy poll this year, and the latest results show Mr. Trump has erased a 12-point deficit since early October and shows a five point swing between the candidates since Thursday, the day before the FBI’s announcement.

Most other major polls have shown Mrs. Clinton leading in Virginia for the entire post-conventions period, albeit by amounts that have varied according to the news cycle.

The Hampton survey, conducted Oct. 26-30, also showed a high number — 15 percent — of Virginia voters still undecided less than two weeks out from Election Day.

The Democrat’s poll numbers have dropped nationwide since FBI Director James Comey told Congress on Friday that the discovery of new emails in an unrelated case — widely reported to be the underage-sexting investigation of disgraced former Rep. Anthony Wiener — prompted the agency to revisit Mrs. Clinton’s handling of classified documents.
