ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles has scheduled a clemency hearing for a man who’s set for execution later this month.
Steven Frederick Spears is to be put to death Nov. 16 at the state prison in Jackson. The parole board set a hearing for Nov. 15. Clemency hearings aren’t open to the public or media
The 54-year-old was convicted of murder in the August 2001 death of his ex-girlfriend Sherri Holland at her Dahlonega home.
A Georgia Supreme Court summary of the case says Spears killed Holland because he suspected she’d been romantically involved with someone else. The summary says Spears choked her, wrapped tape around her mouth and face and put a plastic bag over her head.
Spears would be the eighth Georgia inmate executed this year.
