LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials say the body of a man found west of Las Cruces has been identified as their investigation into his death continues.
The body of 61-year-old Robert Reed was discovered Oct. 10.
Sheriff’s officials say the severely decomposed remains were wrapped in a tarp and could have been dumped at the spot as early as mid-August.
Two landscape workers who were clearing weeds in the area discovered the body and alerted authorities.
The remains were sent to the University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner for positive identification.
Detectives have learned that Reed lived in Las Cruces, frequented Branigan Library and walked with a cane.
But they have been unable to locate any of his relatives and are asking the public for any information.
