SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Thousands have filled the streets in the Massachusetts city of Springfield to protest the election of Republican Donald Trump for president.
Masslive.com reports that activists and college students were among the demonstrators who gathered in the city’s Court Square Sunday afternoon before marching through much of the downtown area.
Some protesters held signs that read, “Not my president” and “Will swap one Donald Trump for 25,000 refugees.”
Police were present and say between 1,600 and 2,000 people were in attendance. Capt. Cheryl Clapprood says the march was peaceful and there were no reports of clashes between demonstrators and a few pro-Trump counter-protesters along the route.
Springfield joins Worcester and Boston- along with other cities across the country -where protesters have assembled and marched after Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton.
