LOS ANGELES (AP) - Students from several Los Angeles schools have walked out of classes to protest the election of Donald Trump as president.
Dozens of students hoisting signs and chanting slogans marched out the front doors of Garfield High in East Los Angeles around 8:30 a.m. Monday.
They will be joined throughout the morning by kids from other schools as they make their way to rallies at Mariachi Plaza and later at City Hall.
Organizers say protesters want to show support for immigrants, Muslims, gay people and other communities they say will be vulnerable under a Trump administration.
Police urged parents to discuss with their children the importance of expressing opinions in a lawful, safe and peaceful manner.
Demonstrators have gathered across the California and the nation in the six days since Trump’s elected.
