BOSTON (AP) - Plans to build a commercial helipad in Boston are being revived with the relocation of General Electric.
The Boston City Council is holding a Nov. 16 hearing to discuss the issue.
Representatives from the city Department of Economic Development, Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Boston Redevelopment Authority have been invited.
City and state leaders offered to help build a helipad as part of the incentives to lure General Electric from its longtime headquarters in Fairfield, Connecticut earlier this year.
The industrial giant has hundreds of employees working in temporary office space in South Boston as it builds a permanent headquarters nearby.
The Massachusetts Legislature is also considering the helipad issue.
Boston’s last two public helipads closed in 1999. Plans to a new construct one fizzled in 2008 amid strong local opposition.
