RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Gov. Pat McCrory says the federal government has approved a request for money to fight the wildfires burning in western North Carolina.
McCrory said in a news release Saturday that a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will now pay 75 percent of the emergency protective measures taken in fighting the fires.
More than 20 wildfires are burning in western North Carolina. On Thursday, McCrory declared a state of emergency for 25 counties.
Eligible firefighting costs covered by the FEMA grant may include: field camps; equipment use; repair and replacement; tools, materials and supplies; and mobilization and demobilization.
