FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Fayetteville officials are saying a private company isn’t collecting debris from Hurricane Matthew quickly enough.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (https://bit.ly/2fJeCA7) that it obtained an email in which City Manager Doug Hewitt says the contractor hasn’t met the city’s expectations for collecting debris from the storm.

But weeks after the storm hit Oct. 8, many properties still have piles of fallen tree limbs, ruined insulation and furniture heaped on curbs.

The project manager for the Fayetteville job says private contractor CrowderGulf will more than double the number of trucks to seven by this weekend. Barrett Holmes says the Alabama-based company is “within weeks” of collecting all the debris.

Holmes says he’s met daily with city staff and was surprised to get a letter from Hewett about the debris pick-up.
