Rep. Jeb Hensarling said Friday he hasn’t heard from President-elect Donald Trump’s team about a possible post as the next secretary of the Treasury, but said he’d at least be willing to have such a conversation.

“You’re always flattered to see your name on such a list,” Mr. Hensarling, Texas Republican, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “But I don’t expect the call. It’s not a job that I have sought. I don’t expect the call.”

“I have a great job,” said Mr. Hensarling, who chairs the House Financial Services Committee. “It’s a far more important job now.”

He said Mr. Trump is going to need somebody on Capitol Hill to translate his vision and passion into policy.

“I’m far more excited about the job I have now than I was about 72 hours ago,” he said.

“It is not something I have sought or contemplated,” Mr. Hensarling said of the Treasury post. “If the phone rang, I wouldn’t block the call. I [would] have the conversation.”

As chairman of the financial services committee, Mr. Hensarling has been one of the more outspoken critics of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law passed in the wake of the 2008 economic crash.

Mr. Trump’s transition website says his team will be working to “dismantle” Dodd-Frank “and replace it with new policies to encourage economic growth and job creation.”
