STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - Luke Petrasek scored 20 points on Friday night and Columbia pulled away late to beat Stony Brook 73-66 in the season opener for both teams.

Mike Smith hit a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left and added a pair of free throws at 10 seconds to ice it for the Lions.

Quinton Adlesh gave Columbia the lead for good at 68-65 on a 3-pointer with 1:40 left in the game. Akwasi Yeboah made 1 of 2 free throws 20 seconds later to cap Stony Brook’s scoring.

Stony Brook never led in the second half but had a 6-0 run to close to a 65-all tie with 2:22 left.

Petrasek made 3 of 4 from 3-point range, Smith added 14 points and Nate Hickman scored 13 for Columbia.

Roland Nyama had 16 points, and Yeboah and Tyrell Sturdivant added 11 points each for the Sea Wolves. Sturdivant also grabbed 10 boards.
