LAS VEGAS (AP) - FBI representatives joined Las Vegas police to show a group of local business leaders how to prevent credit card theft at gas pumps and ATMs.

The Las Vegas Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2eoRKtj ) that the Thursday presentation explained how criminals can lay a fake facade on a gas pump or ATM in a matter of seconds, allowing them to wipe out users’ bank accounts.

The FBI says the businesspeople are part of Infragard, the agency’s program on protecting national infrastructure.

Las Vegas police say they confiscated 23 skimmers, or card readers, in October alone. Detective Jeff Grace says each skimmer can generate up to $2 million for the criminal who places it.

FBI Special Agent Fred Bradford says card users should keep an eye out fake-looking facades and check their bank accounts daily.
