President-elect Donald Trump arrived at the White House Thursday morning for his first meeting with President Obama to prepare for taking office.

Mr. Trump’s black SUV arrived at the White House grounds through the southeast gate, and he entered the White House from the South Lawn side, out of view of cameras. Most VIPs arrive at the White House on the West Wing side, where photographers and TV cameras can record them entering the executive mansion.

Mr. Trump is meeting with Mr. Obama in the Oval Office, while wife Melania is meeting separately with first lady Michelle Obama. Later Thursday, Vice President-elect Mike Pence and wife Karen will meet with Vice President Joseph R. Biden and his wife, Jill, at the vice president’s official residence in Washington.

While the president-elect was meeting with the president, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was spotted in conversation with White House chief of staff Denis McDonough on the South Lawn.

Mr. Kushner is married to Mr. Trump’s oldest daughter, Ivanka.
