RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Microsoft will spend more than $250 million to expand a data center site in Southside Virginia.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced that the tech company’s expansion of a data center in Mecklenburg County will create 44 new jobs.

Microsoft’s total investment in the site now tops $2 billion since 2010.

McAuliffe approved a $500,000 grant for the expansion. The state’s tobacco fund approved nearly $1 million for the project. The governor’s office said it competed with other potential sites for the expansion.
