There was much weeping and gnashing of teeth at Cornell University on Wednesday, as students at the Ivy League college responded to Donald Trump’s shocking general election victory by holding a “Cry In” on campus.
Approximately 30 students took part in the event, which was furnished with poster boards, markers and chalk for students to express their emotions about the president-elect.
A video posted by the Cornell Daily Sun shows students huddling to keep warm on the chilly afternoon in Ithaca, New York. A barista appears to be passing around hot chocolate.
“I’m quite terrified, honestly,” one student says in the video, which was first reported by the College Fix. “It’s saying that people are really given into fear-mongering. They are willing to put people down based on their identity just so that they would feel vindicated that they would be getting rid of ’Crooked Hillary.’ “
Another student said she was shocked by the election results.
“It’s really hard for me to come to terms with this,” she said. “I think a lot of us are in shock. I’m concerned about how this is validating the behavior of a lot of people in terms of what the president himself might condone, at least like what he has been condoning.”
“I hope it will be a short four years,” she added.
