The 2016 race for the presidency will go down as the most unbelievable election in the history of the United States. The battle between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump has turned nasty. But even more than turning nasty, it has shown a fundamental difference between conservatives and liberals.
Shortly before the Oct. 9th presidential debate, NBC released a tape that had been made for “Access Hollywood.” In the video, Donald Trump was recorded, without his knowledge, making exceptionally crude statements about women.
Many published reports indicate NBC executives wanted to release the tape at the most opportune time to damage Donald Trump’s candidacy.
To a certain extent that happened. When the video was released, a number of conservatives and Republicans denounced Trump. Senators John McCain, Jeff Flake, Kelly Ayotte, Rob Portman, along with Congressmen Jason Chaffetz, Martha Roby, Bradley Byrne and Ann Wagner all withdrew their endorsements. Many Republicans denounced Trump’s comments and some even called for him to step down. Even his running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence denounced Trump’s comments.
This past Friday, FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to Republican and Democrat members of Congress, informing them that the FBI was reopening the investigation into the Clinton email server scandal.
The response from Democrats was interesting to say the least and it contrasts with the reaction Republicans had. Anyone with three functioning brain cells knows Hillary Clinton and her team violated a lot of federal laws with her homemade server. As always, with liberals, it is not the facts that matter. Only claims that somehow the “process” is unfair. When Wikileaks released damning emails, the Democrats would not even deny the emails. They just complained about “Russian hackers.”
As the hours unfolded after Comey’s letter became public, there was no division in the Democrats and the left. Liberals who had praised Comey only months earlier for burying the Clinton scandal, now went after Comey with venom. Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid went so far as to accuse Comey of violating the Hatch Act. Okay, everyone realizes Reid is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but does Reid even know what the Hatch Act is?
Liberal Democrat after Liberal Democrat came out against Comey and the FBI. The liberal media went after Comey as well.
Not a single liberal Democrat broke with the Party and the Clinton crime family.
And that says something.
For conservatives and for Republicans, principles matter. In 1974, Republicans broke away from their own party’s President to support impeachment of Richard Nixon. In 1998, then President Bill Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives. In 1999, when the case went to the Senate for trial, not a single Democrat voted to remove him.
For liberals and Democrats, principle does not matter. Only power. They do not care what Hillary Clinton did, as long as she can win the election and keep control of the White House in Democrat hands.
That attitude is a real and present danger to the Republic. Banana republics have leaders and parties who only care about power. When one party cares about principle and the other cares only about power, eventually the party that cares about principle will be destroyed. And the party that cares about power will rule dictatorially.
There is a real lesson here. The Democrats do not care about the rule of law, freedom or liberty. The Democrats do not want to govern. They want to rule.
If America is to continue as a free nation, we cannot have a party that simply wants to rule.
That is a not a republic. That is a dictatorship.
