The White House said Monday that North Carolina’s lawsuit against the administration won’t stop the Justice Department’s move to pull federal education money as a response to the state’s transgender bathroom law.

“The position of the North Carolina government has not changed,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest, asserting that state officials are still pursuing the “mean-spirited law.”

The state filed suit against the federal government after Justice Department officials gave North Carolina a deadline of Monday to repeal the law, which prohibits people from using public restrooms of the opposite sex.

Mr. Earnest said state officials should be getting the message from the business community, which he said is beginning to withhold investment in North Carolina over the law.
