New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will serve as the chairman of Donald Trump’s White House transition team, the Trump campaign announced Monday.
“Governor Christie is an extremely knowledgeable and loyal person with the tools and resources to put together an unparalleled Transition Team, one that will be prepared to take over the White House when we win in November,” Mr. Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, said in a statement. “I am grateful to Governor Christie for his contributions to this movement.”
The Trump campaign said Mr. Christie will oversee an extensive team of professionals preparing to take over the White House in the fall, with a goal of implementing the team in an official capacity in November.
“I am honored by the confidence being placed in me by Mr. Trump and look forward to putting together a first-rate team to assemble an administration to help best serve the president-elect and the nation,” Mr. Christie said.
Mr. Christie endorsed Mr. Trump in February after ending his own 2016 White House bid.
The Trump campaign is now in the midst of gearing up for a general election fight where the billionaire businessman will likely face off against Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.
Last week, Mr. Trump announced Steven Mnuchin will serve as the campaign’s national finance chairman. The campaign has also made other top-level hires recently, including selecting Rick Wiley, who managed Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s 2016 presidential campaign, as national political director.
