OPINION:
Disney CEO Bob Iger blasted Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders asking in a private Facebook post: “How many jobs have you created?”
The online post was obtained by “The Wrap,” where Mr. Iger – who has supported Mr. Sanders’ rival Hillary Clinton wrote:
“To Bernie Sanders: We created 11,000 new jobs at Disneyland in the past decade, and our company has created 18,000 in the US in the last five years. How many jobs have you created? What have you contributed to the US economy?”
On a campaign stop in California on Tuesday, Mr. Sanders took aim at Disney for its low wages and Mr. Iger’s high executive pay.
Disney “pays its workers [at the park] so low that many are forced to live in motels because they can’t afford a decent place to live,” Mr. Sanders said at the rally, contrasting that with Disney’s “record-breaking profit of nearly $3 billion last quarter.”
Mr. Sanders also hit the company for laying off 250 technology workers and requiring some of them of them to train their replacements, which were hired on temporary H-1B visas for highly skilled technical workers. Mr. Sanders’ cited Mr. Iger’s pay packages as “an example of what we are talking about when we talk about a rigged economy.”
