Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are tied in the electoral battleground Virginia, according to a new poll Monday of a theoretical matchup for the 2016 presidential race.
Mrs. Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, and Mr. Trump, her GOP rival, both captured 38 percent of likely voters in Virginia, according to a Roanoke College poll.
About 11 percent of Old Dominion voters said they are undecided, with another 11 percent saying they would vote for someone else and 2 percent vowing they would not vote if those two were their only choices, the poll found.
Virginia became a swing state after Barack Obama broke the GOP’s longtime hold on the state, winning it in both 2008 and 2012.
Another recent poll showed Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump tied in the battleground state Florida.
As in most national polls, both Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump have shockingly low favorability ratings from Virginia voters.
Mrs. Clinton had a 30 percent favorable/50 percent unfavorable rating. Mr. Trump had a 23 percent favorable/56 percent unfavorable rating, according to the poll.
