Sen. Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Monday he has no reason to believe that Donald Trump is considering him as a possible running mate following a meeting with the presumptive GOP presidential nominee in New York City.
Pressed by reporters, the Tennessee Republican refused to rule out playing a role in a Trump administration, but said the focus of the visit was more of a chance to get to know Mr. Trump.
“I have no reason whatsoever to believe that I am being considered for a position like that,” Mr. Corker told reporters, alluding to his prospects of joining Mr. Trump atop the Republican ticket. “I will say that until I am blue in the face.”
Mr. Corker said he talked with Mr. Trump about China and Russia, and did not focus on Mr. Trump’s proposed temporary ban on new Muslim immigrants coming into the country.
“I will say that the fact that he is challenging some of the status quo, it is causing these countries to think a little bit different about the U.S. and I say that in a positive way,” he said. “We had a good conversation.”
