Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Sunday he is open to joining either a Republican or a Democratic presidential ticket in 2016.
In an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Mr. Cuban described himself as “fiercely independent” and said both candidates would first have to moderate their stances on certain issues.
If approached by presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, Mr. Cuban said he would have a conversation with the real-estate mogul.
“If he asked me, I’d be like, ’OK, Donald. That’s great. Let’s talk about it,’” Mr. Cuban said. “But we’re both going to have to dig in and really look and understand the issues so we can come up with solutions.”
He also said he would be open to running as Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton’s running mate, citing the former secretary of state’s thorough policy proposals as a nod in her favor.
“I like the fact that Senator Clinton has thought out proposals,” he said. “That’s a good thing, because at least we get to see where she stands. But I think Senator Sanders has dragged her a little bit too far to the left.”
He said the “key would be she would have to go more to the center,” if he were to be her running mate.
Later on the show, Mrs. Clinton said she was intrigued by the idea of a Clinton-Cuban ticket.
“I think we should look widely and broadly,” she said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when asked about Mr. Cuban. “It’s not just people in elective office. It is successful businesspeople. I am very interested in that.”
