LOUISVILLE — Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president and CEO of the National Rifle Association, on Saturday ripped former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for pushing a “gun-hating, modern-day temperance movement” he said activists are trying to insert into the mainstream movie industry.
“No matter where you look, you can’t escape the elitists’ agenda,” Mr. LaPierre said at the NRA’s annual meeting of members at the group’s convention in Louisville.
“My gosh, if you try to go to a movie to get away from it all just for [an] hour or two, you [can] see how Michael Bloomberg and his gun-hating, modern-day temperance movement are pushing Hollywood to put anti-gun messages in movies now,” he said.
On Friday, the NRA officially endorsed likely Republican nominee Donald Trump for president.
“Stand up if you believe in freedom. Stand up if you want to protect your right to protect yourself when no one else will, because no one else can,” Mr. LaPierre said toward the end of his speech, as members began to stand up and applaud.
“Together on election day, let’s take our country back,” he said.
