Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton held a 6-point lead over likely GOP rival Donald Trump in a new national poll released on Thursday, but it also showed that a majority of voters dislike both candidates.
Mrs. Clinton, who is closing in on the Democratic presidential nomination, topped Mr. Trump 47 percent to 41 percent in a CBS News/New York Times poll.
Mr. Trump has enjoyed a bump in the polls since locking up the GOP nomination earlier this month. In the same poll in late March, Mrs. Clinton, the former secretary of state, topped Mr. Trump by 10 points, 50 percent to 40 percent.
Recent polls have showed a closer race, with Mr. Trump in front in a couple of polls and others putting the spread within the margin of error.
The new poll confirmed a striking dynamic in the likely general election matchup of Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump as voters continued to view both candidates unfavorably.
About 52 percent of Americans had an unfavorable view of Mrs. Clinton, with 31 saying they view her favorably. Mr. Trump’s number were worse, with 55 percent saying they don’t like him and 26 percent saying they view him favorably.
