Perhaps preoccupied with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s appearance at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention, Hillary Clinton’s official campaign Twitter account erroneously used a Venn diagram Friday to illustrate her case for passing new federal gun control laws.
“Dear Congress, Let’s get this done. Thanks, The vast majority of Americans,” reads the tweet, which accompanies a Venn diagram showing a blue circle representing “90% of Americans” with a yellow circle representing “83% of gun owners.” The overlapping region is titled “Support universal background checks.”
“@HillaryClinton, it’s actually this… But #imwithyou. #gunsense,” replied Twitter user Evan Shapiro, attached an image of a small circle labeled “83 percent of gun owners” within a larger circle labeled “90 percent of Americans.”
User @travislylesnews, who works at Business Insider, replied with a Venn diagram of his own to make light of the typo, with a yellow circle labeled “Circles” and a blue circle labeled “Diagrams” intersecting to show a green-shaded area labeled “Venn diagrams.”
User @travton tweeted a picture of a Venn diagram putting “Hillary Clinton” in the certain of a Venn diagram with the two circles being “People who do not understand Venn diagrams” and “People tweeting out Venn diagrams.”
Others were decidedly more partisan. Conservative Twitter user @hale_razor quipped, “Venn diagram of Clintons and non-criminals: O O” while the Weekly Standard’s Shoshanna Weissman tweeted an illustration show two circles which do not overlap, reading “Stereotypes Hillary is smashing” and “Women being bad at math.”
