You can lead President Obama to Flint, Michigan, but you can’t make him drink the water.

The White House said Monday that Mr. Obama has no plans to make a public show of drinking a glass of the city’s infamous water during a trip there on Wednesday to highlight the need for repairing the water system.

“I’m not aware of any photo ops that involve the president’s consumption of water,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, a Republican, has been under pressure to drink the city’s water after the state took most of the blame for the crisis of lead in its drinking supply.

Mr. Earnest said he “certainly would encourage people to listen to the advice they get” government experts about the water now being safe to drink.

The White House said the president is traveling to the city in response to a letter from an 8-year-old girl in Flint who invited him.
