Daniel Craig has turned down a contract offer to star in two more James Bond spy movies, the Daily Mail reported Thursday.
The actor’s “007” films have been the franchise’s most successful, taking in an average of $835 million at the box office, The Economist reported last fall on the eve of “Spectre,” Mr. Craig’s presumably final installment.
Though some may take the news as the franchise being revoked its license to thrill, others are taking to social media to make their case for who can fill the role.
“Statistically, Henry Cavill is the only well known British actor capable of being the next Bond,” the satirical Stats Britain Twitter account joked. Mr. Cavill starred as the Man of Steel in this spring’s superhero romp “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
“Daniel Craig is ’done’, surely Tom Hiddleston must be the next Bond?” offered British GQ.
“We need @idriselba to be the next James Bond. Minorities can be ’suave’ too,” Twitter user Leo Medina offered, referring to the black British actor best known for his role in HBO’s “The Wire” and as the title character in the BBC’s “Luther” crime drama.
