A BBQ joint in Lithuania has captured global headlines with its mural of U.S. presidential hopeful Donald Trump locking lips with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Dominykas Ceckauskas of Keule Ruke (The Smoking Pig) hired artist Mindaugas Bonanu to create the mural, which has gone viral on social media. The phrase “make everything great again” accompanies the image.
“We always believed that the small libertarian BBQ joint situated on the NATO border with Russia will go viral one day,” Mr. Ceckauskas said on the restaurant’s Facebook page last Friday.
The mural, which is similar to a 1979 photo featuring Leonid Brezhnev and East Germany’s Erich Hoenecker, will remain up until May 20.
Mr. Ceckauskas told The Associated Press on Saturday that his restaurant’s art is meant to portray “an ironic view of what can be expected,” if the Republican billionaire becomes the next U.S. president. “They seem to get along pretty well.”
“We think that the border now is not in Berlin, but somewhere here in the Baltic states, between [the] East and the West,” Mr. Ceckauskas told the AP on Saturday.
Mr. Trump told MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Dec. 18 that Mr. Putin was “a leader, unlike what we have in this country.”
The Russian president has called Mr. Trump “bright and talented.”
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment when contacted on Monday by CNN.
