The Democratic governors’ campaign arm is hoping that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s positions on women’s issues become a cash cow for their candidates running in the fall election.
The Democratic Governors Association blasted out a fundraising email Friday vilifying Mr. Trump and his “extreme anti-women agenda.”
“There’s NO PLACE for that kind of disgusting misogyny in 2016!” the fundraising email said. “No matter who you’re voting for, top Dems like you need to send a strong message to Trump that we won’t let his attacks go unanswered!”
A Quinnipiac University swing-state poll released this week showed that Mr. Trump lags far behind Mrs. Clinton among women voters, but is running circles around the former secretary of state among men.
Mrs. Clinton is leading Mr. Trump among women voters by 19 percentage points in Pennsylvania, 13 percentage points in Florida and 7 percentage points in Ohio.
Mr. Trump, meanwhile, is outperforming Mrs. Clinton among men by 21 percentage points in Pennsylvania, 15 percentage points in Ohio and 13 percentage points in Florida.
There are 12 gubernatorial races in November, eight of which are currently held by Democrats and four by Republicans.
The Cook Political Report, in its most recent analysis of the contests, shows Democrats are defending the governorship in three of the four “tossup” races — Missouri, New Hampshire and West Virginia.
Republicans are on the defense in North Carolina, according to the breakdown.
