Ted Cruz has won the Idaho Republican primary, NBC News and Fox News both reported.
NBC News called the race for Mr. Cruz shortly before midnight EST.
With 44 percent of the vote counted, Mr. Cruz had 42 percent support, with tycoon Donald Trump at 29 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 18 percent, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 7 percent.
