Mitt Romney taped anti-Trump robocalls on behalf of Ohio Gov. John Kasich in an attempt to influence voters before they head to the polls in some of Tuesday’s primary contests.

Mr. Romney, the party’s 2012 presidential nominee, recently returned to the political fold to warn voters against nominating Mr. Trump, warning that doing so would be a disaster for the Republican Party and the nation.

“Today, you have the opportunity in Michigan to vote for a Republican nominee for president,” Mr. Romney said in a call paid for by the Kasich campaign. “These are critical times that call for a serious, thoughtful, commander-in-chief.”

“If we Republicans were to choose Donald Trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future would be greatly diminished, and I am convinced Donald Trump would lose to Hillary Clinton. Please vote today for a candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton and who can make us proud.”

Mr. Romney reportedly taped similar calls for Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.
