Hammered by attack ads from super PACs trying to knock him out of the race, GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump warned Tuesday that without him the Republican Party risks losing the the general election.
“The bottom line is the biggest story in politics is how many people are showing up to these primaries,” the billionaire businessman said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program. “There are 50, 60, 70 percent — millions of additional people — over four years ago because they were dying, the Republicans. Now it’s been energized and instead of being given credit, they take out ads against me.”
Conservative groups and super PACs financed by GOP establishment moneymen have unleashed a massive anti-Trump campaign with TV, radio and direct mail in several key states, including Florida, where the March 15 primary will help determine whether Mr. Trump continues on a trajectory to secure the nomination.
Mr. Trump said that he is the only one in a position to save the Republican Party.
“I’ll tell you, if I am outed for some reason — I’m out — you will lose millions and millions of potential voters out of the Republican Party, and [then] I don’t think there is any way that the Republicans can win,” he said.
