Hillary Clinton on Sunday night joined the call for Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder to resign amid the ongoing water contamination crisis in the city of Flint.
At a Democratic presidential primary debate in the troubled city, Mrs. Clinton joined rival Sen. Bernard Sanders’ demand that Mr. Snyder, a Republican, step down immediately.
“I agree the governor should resign or be recalled and we should support the efforts of the citizens attempting to achieve that,” she said in her opening statement.
Minutes before, Mr. Sanders said Mr. Snyder failed the people of Michigan.
“The governor of this state should understand his dereliction of duty was irresponsible. He should resign,” the Vermont senator said.
While federal money to address the Flint crisis, remains held up in Congress, calls are growing for Mr. Snyder and Michigan state lawmakers to tap into the state’s rainy day fund.
“It is raining lead in Flint and the state is derelict in not coming forward with the money that is required,” Mrs. Clinton said.
