Sen. Bernard Sanders on Sunday night blasted the Democratic party for being complicit in handing out “corporate welfare” to major U.S. companies such as Boeing.
At a Democratic presidential primary debate in Michigan, Mr. Sanders shot back against presidential primary rival Hillary Clinton, who criticized the Vermont senator for voting against the Export-Import Bank last year. The bank gives loans to American companies that export products.
Mr. Sanders stood by his vote and said the bank mainly funds huge companies such as Boeing, which don’t need the money.
“Democrats are not always right, Democrats have often supported corporate welfare,” Mr. Sanders said. “I do not believe in corporate welfare.”
Mrs. Clinton said she strongly supports the bank and argues it’s necessary to keep American companies competitive.
“I think we’re in a race for exports,” she said.
