A knife was reportedly found buried on the estate of former football star and murder suspect O.J. Simpson.

A construction worker found the folding buck knife on the perimeter of the house when he was working on a demolition crew in 1998, law enforcement sources told celebrity gossip website TMZ.

The knife is currently being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department in a top-secret investigation.

The construction worker took the knife to an off-duty LAPD officer, who took the knife home and kept it, sources told TMZ.

The officer retired this year from the LAPD and asked a friend who worked in LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division if he could get the department record number for the Nicole Brown Simpson/Ronald Goldman murder case so he could engrave the number in a frame for the knife, which he planned to hang on his wall.

Sources told TMZ that the friend told his superiors, who demanded that the retired officer turn the knife over.

The knife is currently being tested for fingerprints, hair and other biological evidence.

Sources told TMZ that the knife could have blood residue on it, but that they cannot be certain until the knife is tested.

Mr. Simpson was found not guilty of the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman. The murder weapon was never discovered.

Mr. Simpson cannot be prosecuted again due to double jeopardy laws.
