A man who was seen shouting at a black woman in a viral video from a Donald Trump rally this week was quietly discharged from the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program on Wednesday.
The man was identified this week on social media as Joseph Pryor. On Facebook, he listed himself as a “future Marine.”
Mr. Pryor’s Facebook page has now been deleted, but according to the New York Daily News, Mr. Pryor publicly bragged online about his role in the harassment and assault of a young black woman, Shiya Nwanguma, at the rally. He also posted a screen shot from the video showing himself yelling along with other people at the rally as they tossed Ms. Nwanguma around.
The United States Marine Corps posted a tweet on Wednesday saying, effective March 2, Mr. Pryor had been discharged from their Delayed Entry Program, which is a program for Marine hopefuls getting ready to ship out to boot camp.
In another tweet, the Marine Corps recruiting office said: “The USMC doesn’t tolerate disrespect toward any group & this individual’s actions doesn’t represent actions expected of Marines.”
The Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Louisville released a statement on Thursday saying, “Joseph Pryor demonstrated poor judgment in his use of social media that associates him with a racially charged altercation at a political rally. Hatred toward any group of individuals is not tolerated in the Marine Corps and he is being discharged from our delayed entry program effective yesterday.”
Police are currently investigating the incident at the Trump rally in Louisville.
“We have received three criminal complaints regarding alleged assaults at the Donald Trump rally on Monday and are actively investigating them,” Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley told the Daily News.
