A pair of New York City siblings was killed Tuesday in the terror attacks on Brussels, a family friend confirmed Friday.
Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday two Americans were killed in the airport and subway bombings in the Belgian capital, but did not give further details.
Sascha and Alexander Pinczowski were on the phone with a relative when twin bombs exploded at the Brussels airport and the call was cut off. The family did not hear from the pair again and confirmed Friday that they had been killed in the blast.
“The Pinczowski family confirms that their children Sascha and Alexander died during the attacks in Brussels,” Fans Van Herteren said in a statement Friday, the New York Daily News reported. “The family would like to express their gratitude for all the compassion and they now need time to grieve.”
The brother and sister were traveling back to New York when the bombs went off. They were Dutch nationals but had lived in the U.S. for some time, according to officials in the Netherlands.
Two more Americans, Justin Shults and wife Stephanie, are still missing. The pair had dropped off Stephanie’s mother at the Brussels airport Tuesday morning before the explosions. While the mother is fine, relatives say they have not heard from the couple, the Daily News reported.
The attacks killed 31 people and wounded 270 more, including 12 Americans.
