Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday likened GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump to someone brought in to examine a broken-down car who will simply yell and curse at it rather than lift the hood and fix it.

“This is a man who when he was asked what would you do on health care, he kept saying, ’well, the lines around the states, the lines around the states,’” Mr. Cruz said at a town hall event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. “What are you talking about? ’I don’t know — they told me to say the lines around the states.’”

“You know, when you talk about jobs, he’s very good at saying jobs have gone overseas — he’s right,” Mr. Cruz said. “And then you ask, ’all right Donald, how are you going to fix it?’ No idea.

“It’s just going to be great,” Mr. Cruz said. “It’s just going to be great — I’m going to wave a magic wand and it’s going to be great. Well, I’m sorry, Donald, we don’t live in wonderland.

“If your car is broken down, do you want to bring a guy over to stand in the driveway and yell and scream and curse at your car, or do you actually want someone to lift the hood and fix the [darn] thing?” he said.

Mr. Cruz and Mr. Trump have been engaged in a back-and-forth the past few days after an anti-Trump super PAC used a racy photo of Mr. Trump’s wife Melania, a former model, in an ad.

On Tuesday, Mr. Trump made a vague threat on Twitter to “spill the beans” on Mr. Cruz’s wife, Heidi, in response. Mr. Cruz denounced the ad, which was made by a group that’s unaffiliated with his campaign. Then late Wednesday, Mr. Trump shared an unflattering image of Mrs. Cruz on Twitter, and Mr. Cruz called Mr. Trump a “sniveling coward” Thursday.

“I’ll let him speak for himself, but I’ll tell you, I think Heidi is the most beautiful, brilliant, amazing, fantastic, loving mom, incredible wife, and she’s my best friend in the whole world, and I love you with all my heart,” Mr. Cruz said Friday.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the “sniveling coward” line. Mr. Trump tweeted Thursday evening that Mr. Cruz is the one who started the fight.
