In 2014, the American people spoke. In a sea change election, the Democrats were voted into the minority, not by just one or two seats but by a sizable amount.

Fast forward, now almost two years. In February, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died and liberals rejoiced. They literally rejoiced. If anyone doubts that, just look at the Twitter feed in the hours following Scalia’s death. But the left rejoiced because Scalia’s death meant the left had the chance to achieve one of its cherished goals: control of the Supreme Court.

Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland to be Scalia’s replacement. Garland is just another far left wing extremist.

Despite the voters having clearly stated their opinions in 2014, the Democrats have launched a full court press against Republican Senators who may face a tough reelection fight this year. In the face of this pressure, conservatives have an unlikely hero.

Mitch McConnell.

Yes, that Mitch McConnell. The Senate Majority Leader, who is the subject of frequent attacks from conservatives. McConnell has said there will be no hearings nor will there be a vote on Merrick Garland.

The immediate reaction from conservatives in social media was that McConnell would fold. He hasn’t. While a few Republican Senators have offered to meet Garland out of “courtesy,” only one, liberal Illinois Senator Mark Kirk, has called for a vote.

Senator McConnell’s office is not simply opposing a vote on this nominee. He is leading the fight. His office has reached out to conservative groups to help them oppose Garland. Republicans facing tough election challenges are standing firm too.

Iowa Senator Charles Grassley is probably the left’s top target. He is facing a tough race in his home state and he is the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania are also feeling the wrath of the hard left.

Instead of letting the voters of America decide this issue, the left wants to force a radical nominee through. They know the next President will be a Republican, who will nominate someone much more like the late Justice Scalia as a replacement.

On Monday, radical leftists from Moveon.org and other groups tried to scare some of the Republican Senators. In New Hampshire, they tried to have a rally, but were outnumbered by supporters of Senator Ayotte. Jon Kohan, manager for Ayotte’s reelection campaign dismissed their efforts. He said, “Many supporters showed up today to thank Kelly for fighting to ensure they have a voice in deciding the next Supreme Court Justice. Kelly will continue to stand up for the people of New Hampshire, unlike Governor Hassan who is doing the bidding of Harry Reid and Washington Democrats who are flooding the airwaves right now with attack ads on her behalf.”

Conservatives need to stand up against the far left as they try to put a radical appointee on the Supreme Court. The best way to fight back is for conservatives to call Senators Grassley, Johnson, Toomey and Ayotte with the simple message. Let the next President make the appointment.

Let the American people decide this important issue.
