Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina says Republicans might need to rally around Sen. Ted Cruz at this point to stop businessman Donald Trump, the GOP presidential front-runner.
“Ted Cruz is not my favorite by any means … but we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump, and I’m not so sure that would work,” Mr. Graham, a former 2016 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview on CBS.
Mr. Trump rolled to victory in seven states on Super Tuesday: Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Massachusetts and Vermont. Mr. Cruz won his home state of Texas, along with Oklahoma and Alaska, while Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida notched one win, in Minnesota.
Both Mr. Cruz and Mr. Rubio have been trying to pitch themselves as the candidate with the best shot to take down Mr. Trump in a head-to-head match-up.
Mr. Graham said Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton would beat Mr. Trump “like a drum.”
