According to a CNN report, Ben Carson will be approached by Republican elders asking him to drop out of the presidential race — with an incentive.

CNN’s Dana Bash reported that the retired neurosurgeon — the only man left in the GOP race who has never finished first or second — will be encouraged Wednesday to run for Florida’s open U.S. Senate seat.

The party establishment wants at all costs to avoid a Donald Trump nomination, and it sees a smaller field of challengers as a means to that end.

However, at his campaign headquarters earlier Tuesday, Mr. Carson gave no indication he is even considering dropping out. He says as long as “millions” of people continue to encourage him to run — and it’s God’s will — he is going to stay in the race.

Also Amanda Carpenter, a CNN commentator and a former Ted Cruz Senate staffer, expressed doubt about whether Mr. Carson would be a good fit.

“Serious question. What, judging from Carson’s presidential campaign, makes anyone think he should be in the Senate?” she tweeted.
