Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicted Democrats will draft Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts into the presidential race if the party’s front-runner, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, ends up getting indicted over issues tied to Mrs. Clinton’s private email server.

Speaking about the Republican side, Mr. Gingrich said it’s “very appropriate” for Sen. Ted Cruz to keep campaigning and that it’s good for GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump to have to deal with Mr. Cruz.

“Remember, he’s only been a candidate since June 16, so this is all new and the more practice Trump can have, the better off he’s going to be against Hillary this fall, assuming Hillary isn’t indicted and they don’t have to recruit,” Mr. Gingrich said on Thursday evening’s “Hannity” program on Fox News.

“If Hillary gets indicted, I think they’ll draft Elizabeth Warren — that’s my prediction,” he said.

Mrs. Clinton has said repeatedly she never sent or received material marked classified at the time through the server she set up and used as secretary of state, though many messages have been retroactively labeled that way as the State Department gradually released them under a court order.

At a recent debate, she dismissed a question about a possible indictment, saying it’s not going to happen and that she wouldn’t answer the question.
