After largely declining to officially pick a side in the 2016 GOP race, Florida Gov. Rick Scott says it’s time for Republicans to unite behind GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump.

“We’ve had tough primaries, the voters have picked Donald Trump — it’s time to coalesce behind Donald Trump, because the issue is we’ve got to win in November,” Mr. Scott said Thursday on “Fox and Friends.” “We cannot have four more years of Barack Obama.”

He said he waited to weigh in until after the Florida primary — where Mr. Trump won big — because he wanted to hear from the voters. Sen. Marco Rubio suspended his campaign following his disappointing finish there Tuesday, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush suspended his campaign last month after a disappointing finish in South Carolina.

“We’ve had a tough primary season; two favorites from Florida had lost. A lot of my friends as governors have not made it,” Mr. Scott said. “It’s time to coalesce around Donald Trump so we don’t have Hillary Clinton in November. We can’t keep having this Republican-on-Republican fighting.”

Mr. Scott had already relayed a similar message on his Facebook page.
