President Obama won’t meet Fidel Castro during his historic visit to Cuba next week, White House aides said Wednesday.
Mr. Obama will meet with President Raul Castro, Fidel’s brother, but isn’t scheduled to talk to the 89-year-old Communist revolutionary.
“Neither we nor the Cubans have pursued such a meeting,” said deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes.
Mr. Obama and his family will arrive in Cuba Sunday for a three-day visit, part of the president’s effort to normalize relations with the former Cold War adversary. The president will give a speech to the Cuban people and attend a baseball game between the Cuban national team and the Tampa Bay Rays.
