Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Wednesday that neither GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump nor Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas can win the fall presidential election.
“Neither Cruz nor Trump can win the general election,” Mr. Kasich said on NBC’s “Today” program. “They can’t come into Ohio with the philosophy they have and win. You can’t win Ohio, you can’t be president.”
Mr. Kasich, who despite his win in Ohio on Tuesday, is still well back of Mr. Trump and Mr. Cruz in the delegate count. The Ohio governor said he’s starting to get more attention now, and that no one is going to get the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination before the July convention in Cleveland.
“Nobody is going to have enough delegates,” he said. “Then when we get there, the delegates are going to have to figure out number one, who can run the country, who has the record, and three, who can win.”
Sen. Marco Rubio, who had been third in the delegate count, announced Tuesday he was suspending his campaign after a disappointing loss to Mr. Trump in Florida.
