Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton eked out a narrow win Tuesday in the Illinois primary, but it still put another Midwest state in the win column on a night when she dominated.

With 94 percent of the precincts reporting, Mrs. Clinton was beating rival Sen. Bernard Sanders 50.6 percent to 48.6 percent and was projected as the winner by CNN.

The tight race in Illinois contrasted with Mrs. Clinton’s decisive victories Tuesday in Florida, North Carolina and Ohio.

The results in Illinois and Ohio helped Mrs. Clinton put behind her an embarrassing loss last week in Michigan, where Mr. Sanders upset raised doubts about her ability to compete with Republicans in the general election.

The string of victories gave Mrs. Clinton new momentum in the race and confirmed her staying as the Democratic Party’s all but inevitable nominee.

The remaining primary Tuesday in Missouri was too close to call hours after the polls closed.
